Making Better Videos: Navigating Algorithmic Challenges

making better videos

Making better videos for my clients' products and services is my primary aim as a filmmaker. However, algorithmic formulas have entirely changed the power structure of marketing, making video creation more challenging than ever.It doesn't matter how cool your video marketing campaign is or what kind of product or service you're selling!your videos won't get any love if the algorithm isn't happy with you!

And this really sucks, especially if you have a great product and have spent tons of cash making videos to advertise. But what can you do to navigate this? Are there ways to create better videos that outperform the gate-keeping robots trying to ruin your life?Let's explore.

Having made nine feature films and hundreds of videos for brands worldwide, I believe that great stories still matter to people.Maybe it's the filmmaker in me, but I think audiences, whether sitting in a dark theatre watching a movie or scrolling through social media on the toilet, still need to connect with the story. As tempting as it is to post soulless clickbait for your business, good-quality storytelling can still help you make better videos.

Tell stories with your video creation

The Importance of Human Connection in Making Better Videos

The key to making better videos is to understand human behavior.First off, I'm no psychologist, but what I have evaluated over the years making films is that people want to see themselves reflected in the type of things you're creating. The more relatable your movie or video is to that person, the better your chance of retaining attention and converting some business.

Quality human storytelling is the only way to do this.I've seen many situations where companies post visually stunning commercials, trailers for movies, and product videos, only to fall flat with viewership and engagement. Now, to be fair, part of this is due to the pesky-hating robots on social media.Still, these ads fail because they are strictly advertising instead of telling a story about the person watching.Think about it.Who cares how awesome a car looks driving around in a video? What if you could open the viewer's imagination tosee themselves driving that car?In that case, your video will resonate much better. This is a fundamental approach to making better videos.

Making Better Videos starts with Understanding Your Audience

Another thing to understand about human behavior, famously noted byEarl Nightingale, is that most people tend to believe they and what they are interested in are the most essential things in the world. No one will admit it, but it's the truth. So, if you can offer a message that resonates with people and makes their problems and passions center stage, you're more likely to create a new customer. This insight is essential for making better videos that deeply connect with your audience.

Finding that human connection is the most important thing to focus on when producing your videos or films.Focus on either showing how something will benefit the person watching or telling a compelling story to which the person can relate. This is crucial in making better videos that genuinely engage and resonate with viewers.

Crafting Compelling Narratives

Start with your product or business's "why?" and understand society's concerns.Discover a common problem your company can fix, and let the audience know that you feel them and have a clear plan to solve the issue. This approach will help you make better videos that capture attention and build trust and credibility with your audience.

Building Brand Trust

Lastly, stop trying to close deals so quickly.Take time to build brand trust.Give audiences something to keep them coming back for.Add value to each thing you post or broadcast. At the end of the day, value isn't always based on lower cost.Value is giving leverage to the person you're trying to help. The more leverage you can create for your customers, the better value your service or product will have in the marketplace. This long-term strategy is vital for making better videos that sustain audience interest and loyalty.

As I leave you, try to understand that selling whatever you're selling is not just about making money. If it is, then the product or service is probably garbage anyway. If you have something extraordinary that can help solve a real problem for people and organizations, make that your primary focus throughout your marketing efforts.By doing so, you'll earn trust and build brand ambassadorship. Those two things alone will boost your bottom line and are crucial to making better videos that achieve lasting success.

The landscape of video marketing may be challenging due to algorithmic-gatekeepers.Still, by focusing on simply being human with your storytelling and understanding your audience better, we can all cut through the ones and zeros that hold us back. That's all I have today.I hope it helps.Keep making movies!

Peace out!
